The Province of Ontario is entering stage 3 of the reopening. Industry has retooled their factories to produce masks and personal protective equipment. Face masks are now readily available.
Many of the sewing collectives and volunteer groups which have produced thousands of masks and other protective gear are shutting down production. There are some that will continue. And most are ready to gear up again should it be necessary in the future.
Our emergency response program fulfilled a huge need during a critical shortage of protective wear for front line workers. We were able to do this only because of our many amazing and community-spirited donors and volunteers.
A huge thank you to all of you. You made this possible.
We will be a highlighting some of our star volunteers over the next few weeks. We never really had time to do this before as we were so busy producing the masks and mask kits.
We are in a transition period as a program and need to pause to consider the future of the Initiative.
We are not taking in more volunteer applications or requests for masks at this point.
What we are doing:
We are doing an inventory, finishing current orders, and evaluating what we have all accomplished together in such a short time during this health crisis.
Our volunteer collective will be meeting to discuss next steps.
